KKN Gurugram Desk | India kick-started its Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with a resounding victory over Bangladesh in their opening match. Mohammed Shami’s five-wicket haul and Shubman Gill’s unbeaten century helped India secure a record-breaking win under challenging conditions.

Shubman Gill’s Record-Breaking Century

Shubman Gill played a spectacular unbeaten knock of 101 runs, setting multiple records during his innings. His century helped India chase the target comfortably.

  • Gill became the fastest Indian batsman to score eight ODI centuries, achieving this feat in just 51 innings.
  • He surpassed Indian cricket legends Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, and Sachin Tendulkar, who took more innings to reach the same milestone.
  • Gill also became the fifth batsman in Champions Trophy history to score a century against Bangladesh.
  • Before Gill, Joe Root (England), Rohit Sharma (India), Upul Tharanga (Sri Lanka), and Chris Gayle (West Indies) had achieved this feat.

Rohit Sharma Crosses 11,000 ODI Runs

Indian captain Rohit Sharma added another milestone to his already illustrious career.

  • Rohit scored 41 runs in the match but reached a significant milestone in ODI cricket.
  • He became the second-fastest Indian to reach 11,000 ODI runs, following Virat Kohli.
  • By achieving this feat, Rohit joined an elite club featuring Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.

Virat Kohli’s Fielding Record in ODIs

Even though Virat Kohli had a modest outing with the bat, scoring 22 runs off 38 balls, he made history in the field.

  • Kohli took his 156th ODI catch, making him the joint-third highest catch-taker in ODI history.
  • He now shares this record with Mohammad Azharuddin, becoming India’s leading fielder in terms of catches in ODIs.

India dominated the match with both bat and ball. Mohammed Shami’s five-wicket haul dismantled Bangladesh’s batting lineup, while Shubman Gill’s century ensured a smooth chase. With this win, India has made a strong statement in the Champions Trophy 2025 and will look forward to continuing this momentum in the upcoming matches.
