KKN Gurugram Desk | On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a strategically important visit to Bikaner, Rajasthan, located near the India-Pakistan international border. The visit underscored a unique fusion of India’s spiritual heritage and infrastructure development, beginning with PM Modi offering prayers at the historic Karni Mata Temple in Deshnok, followed by the virtual inauguration of 103 Amrit Bharat Railway Stations across 18 states and union territories.

This move is part of the government’s aggressive push towards railway modernization and inclusive development, with projects valued over ₹1,100 crore being unveiled under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).

Karni Mata Temple Visit: A Spiritual Start Near the Border

Located about 30 kilometers from Bikaner, the Karni Mata Temple in Deshnok is one of the most iconic spiritual landmarks in India. It is famously home to thousands of rats, considered sacred, and worshipped as the reincarnated ancestors of devotees.

PM Modi’s visit to this temple, especially in a border-sensitive region, carried not just religious sentiment but also symbolic national significance — reflecting the deep-rooted bond between culture, devotion, and national identity.

“India’s growth is built on both tradition and technology,” PM Modi was quoted saying at the temple premises.

Accompanied by Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, the Prime Minister also received a replica of the Karni Mata shrine, marking his reverence for the region’s cultural ethos.

Virtual Launch of 103 Amrit Bharat Railway Stations Across 18 States

After his spiritual visit, PM Modi proceeded to the central agenda of his Bikaner tour — the virtual inauguration of 103 redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The project spans 86 districts across 18 states and union territories, including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Bihar, and Kerala.

Key Highlights:

  • Total redevelopment cost: ₹1,100 crore

  • States covered: Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal

  • Districts impacted: 86

  • Number of stations: 103

Each of these stations has been redesigned to offer:

  • Improved passenger amenities

  • Universal accessibility for persons with disabilities

  • Smart ticketing and security systems

  • Integration of regional architecture and cultural motifs

  • Green energy solutions including solar power, rainwater harvesting

Amrit Bharat Station Scheme: A New Vision for Indian Railways

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) is an ambitious mission by the Ministry of Railways, aiming to redevelop over 1,300 railway stations across India.

Objectives of ABSS:

  • Elevate India’s railway stations to world-class standards

  • Foster multi-modal integration (metro, buses, private transport)

  • Enhance regional identity through architecture

  • Create clean, green, and secure public transport hubs

  • Stimulate local economies by encouraging passenger flow and tourism

The scheme’s significance goes beyond physical structures — it seeks to revitalize Indian Railways as a socio-economic engine of the 21st century.

 Deshnok Station: Temple-Inspired Modern Architecture

Among the 103 newly inaugurated stations, the Deshnok Railway Station, located near the Karni Mata Temple, holds a symbolic and functional edge.

Its redevelopment reflects the temple’s Rajasthani design motifs, creating a welcoming environment for the thousands of pilgrims who visit annually. The station now includes:

  • Air-conditioned waiting areas

  • Digital kiosks

  • Special ramps for elderly and disabled passengers

  • Temple-themed façade and decor

This station epitomizes the government’s vision of blending modern infrastructure with cultural identity.

 Bikaner-Mumbai Express Train Flagged Off

In a further boost to regional connectivity, PM Modi also flagged off the Bikaner-Mumbai Express, which is expected to:

  • Reduce travel time between Rajasthan and Maharashtra

  • Improve trade routes for textiles, spices, and handicrafts

  • Offer direct linkage to western India’s economic hubs

The new train is part of a broader rail strategy to connect Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities with metro corridors, enabling better mobility and market access.

Planned Visit to Nal Airbase: Strengthening Border Preparedness

Following his engagements in Deshnok and Palana, PM Modi is also scheduled to visit the Nal Air Force Station, a key military airbase near the India-Pakistan border.

This visit is being seen as a strong signal of India’s military vigilance, especially after recent developments related to Operation Sindoor and security realignments in border regions.

Strategic Importance of Nal Airbase:

  • Located approximately 15 km west of Bikaner

  • Hosts critical air defense and surveillance systems

  • Supports rapid-response units along the international border

Public Address in Palana: Developmental Vision Laid Out

Concluding the day’s itinerary, PM Modi addressed a large gathering in Palana, Bikaner. The event was attended by thousands of locals and BJP party workers.

Key announcements from his speech:

  • ₹26,000+ crore worth infrastructure projects for Rajasthan

  • Expansion of railway electrification and double-tracking

  • Emphasis on Amrit Bharat Stations as symbols of ‘Naya Bharat’

  • Affirmation of inclusive growth — from border villages to metro cities

He also appreciated the people of Rajasthan for their patriotism, especially those residing near the border who “stand as the first line of civil defense”.

PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Bikaner encapsulates a powerful message — India’s development narrative is rooted in tradition, strengthened by faith, and driven by modernity. The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and new railway lines symbolize this very transformation.

With over 100 new railway stations, better rail connectivity, and a spiritual touch through Karni Mata Temple, this visit reinforced the idea that modern infrastructure can, and should, coexist with cultural heritage.
