KKN Gurugram Desk | The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) survey has been officially completed in Kanpur Dehat district for the year 2024-25. With the inclusion of 59,443 households in the survey, the district administration is now entering the verification phase. Once verified, eligible beneficiaries will receive ₹1.20 lakh for house construction and an additional ₹12,000 for toilet construction under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

This major government initiative, aimed at ensuring “Housing for All” by 2026, is expected to uplift thousands of rural families living in kutcha houses or without proper shelter.

What is PMAY-Gramin?

PM Awas Yojana – Gramin is a flagship scheme by the Government of India, launched to provide pucca (permanent) houses with basic amenities to all homeless and those living in inadequate housing in rural India. Under this program, beneficiaries receive:

  • ₹1.20 lakh in plain areas and ₹1.30 lakh in hilly/difficult areas for house construction.

  • ₹12,000 for construction of toilets under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

  • Funds disbursed in three installments directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

Kanpur Dehat Survey 2025: Scope and Execution

The Awas Plus 2024 survey, conducted from early this year until May 15, aimed to capture all eligible rural households across the 618 Gram Panchayats in Kanpur Dehat. According to District officials:

  • A total of 284 field personnel were deployed.

  • 50,531 surveys were done by appointed surveyors.

  • 8,912 surveys were self-submitted by rural residents using the mobile app.

Thus, 59,443 total applications were submitted and uploaded to the central PMAY portal.

Next Steps: Data Verification and Beneficiary List Finalization

Now that the survey is complete, multi-tier verification will begin:

Officer Level % of Surveys Verified
District Officers 2%
Departmental Officials 10%
Block Development Officers (BDO) 5%

Each official will visit a sample of surveyed homes to:

  • Match field data with app entries

  • Cross-verify housing status

  • Ensure eligibility as per scheme norms

Only those who meet all criteria will be included in the final beneficiary list, which will then be submitted to the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.

Who Qualifies for PMAY-G Assistance?

To be eligible under PMAY-G, a family must fulfill the following:

  • Not own a pucca house

  • Household income within specified limits

  • No member in government job or income tax payer

  • Included in the SECC 2011 or verified under Awas+ survey

Additional preferences are given to:

  • SC/ST households

  • Women-headed families

  • Minorities

  • Persons with disabilities

What Will Beneficiaries Receive?

Once verified and approved by the Central Government:

  • ₹1,20,000 for house construction (in three installments)

  • ₹12,000 for constructing a toilet

  • Access to MGNREGA wage employment (up to 90 person-days of unskilled labor support)

  • Convergence with PM Ujjwala Yojana (LPG connection) and Saubhagya Scheme (electricity)

Funds are transferred directly into the beneficiary’s bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) to ensure transparency.

Voices from the District: Hope Rises

Charutosh Jaiswal, local development reporter, spoke to villagers who participated in the self-survey:

“We have been waiting for a pakka house for years. If the government truly verifies our condition, this time we’ll finally have a roof we can call home,” said Sita Devi, a widow from Sikandra Block.

CDO Lakshmi N, who is overseeing the verification phase, stated:

“We have ensured that the process remains inclusive and transparent. Every eligible family will be given their rightful entitlement. Post-verification, lists will be sent to the central government without delay.”

Impact of the Survey: Data-Driven Development

The successful completion of this survey will:

  • Update the Central PMAY database

  • Identify gaps left by SECC 2011 and previous PMAY phases

  • Bring in new eligible families who were earlier excluded

  • Ensure faster rollout of housing benefits before monsoon 2025

The district administration has also ensured that public awareness campaigns were run across villages so that no deserving family is left out.

Why Is This Scheme Important for Rural India?

PMAY-Gramin addresses a core need for shelter, especially for those in rural areas still living in semi-permanent structures. The scheme not only offers dignity and safety but also boosts:

  • Rural employment (through construction-related jobs)

  • Sanitation (via toilet subsidies)

  • Financial inclusion (via bank-linked DBT payments)

In Kanpur Dehat alone, over 59,000 families now stand to benefit from this government push toward inclusive rural development.

The successful conclusion of the PMAY-Gramin survey in Kanpur Dehat is a major milestone in the government’s mission to ensure no rural Indian family is left homeless. With transparency in surveying and swift verification mechanisms in place, the district administration is aiming for timely benefit distribution.

As lakhs of rural Indians continue to wait for permanent housing, initiatives like this bring hope, empowerment, and real change to the grassroots.
