Bihar police have been placed on high alert after reports confirmed the infiltration of three Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists into the state through Nepal. The police headquarters has circulated names, photographs and passport-related details of the suspects across all districts, particularly in areas bordering Nepal. The three identified infiltrators are Mohammad Usman from Bahawalpur, Adil Hussain from Umarkot and Hasnain Ali Awan from Rawalpindi. Authorities stated that the trio entered Kathmandu during the second week of August and later crossed into Bihar. With the state assembly elections approaching, security has been intensified to prevent any potential threats.
Terror Alert in Bihar
The police headquarters has raised concerns that the infiltrators may attempt to carry out terrorist attacks within India. Border districts such as Araria, Kishanganj and Supaul share boundaries with Nepal, while Madhubani, Sitamarhi, East Champaran and West Champaran also remain vulnerable due to their proximity to the border. Officials have directed local police units to strengthen intelligence networks and remain on constant vigil. The warning has been extended to all districts, with a particular focus on areas that could be potential entry points.
Security Measures Intensified
DIG Purnia Range, Pramod Kumar Mandal, confirmed that instructions have been given to increase vigilance in all districts. According to him, “The headquarters has issued an alert after reports of infiltration by three Pakistani suspects through Nepal. Security checks have been intensified and intelligence units are actively monitoring the situation.” Security agencies have already started increased patrolling in sensitive zones and have been asked to verify movements of suspicious individuals.
Past Incidents of Cross-Border Links
This is not the first time that terror suspects have been linked to the Nepal-Bihar border route. In September last year, Motihari police arrested Najre Saddam, a resident of Barhpura in Bhagalpur, near the Nepal border. He was caught with fake currency and later found to have links with Pakistani terror networks. Earlier this year in February, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at Saddam’s residence in Barhpura and seized crucial documents. His case highlighted how the Nepal border has remained a sensitive passage for anti-national activities.
Concerns Ahead of Bihar Elections
The timing of this infiltration has raised major concerns since Bihar is scheduled to hold assembly elections this year. Security agencies fear that terrorist groups may attempt to destabilize law and order during the electoral process. The state government and police headquarters have therefore placed maximum priority on strengthening border surveillance. Special teams have been deployed to coordinate between central intelligence agencies and district police units.
Role of Border Districts in Security
The Nepal-Bihar border has always posed challenges due to its porous nature. Districts like Kishanganj, Araria and Supaul are particularly exposed, with several unofficial routes connecting villages across the border. Smuggling, illegal migration and movement of fake currency have been frequent issues in these regions. Authorities believe terror groups exploit these vulnerabilities to gain entry into India. The alert issued by the police headquarters emphasizes the need for tighter monitoring and stronger coordination among border districts.
Intelligence Agencies on High Alert
Apart from Bihar police, central agencies including the NIA and Intelligence Bureau have been alerted. Inputs suggest that the infiltrators may be attempting to reach different parts of the state or possibly neighboring regions. Investigators are reviewing cross-border travel records, monitoring financial transactions and keeping track of suspected sleeper cells. The police have appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activities.
Link Between Fake Currency and Terror Funding
Past incidents such as the arrest of Najre Saddam underline the nexus between fake currency smuggling and terror funding. Investigations revealed that fake notes recovered near the border were often linked to larger terror financing networks. With similar infiltration reports now emerging, authorities fear renewed attempts at using Bihar as a channel for disruptive activities. Ensuring border security has become an urgent task to prevent such networks from expanding.
Community Fear and Awareness
Local residents in border districts have expressed concerns over safety after the alert was issued. Many fear that the presence of infiltrators could disturb peace and create insecurity. Police officers have reassured the public that all necessary measures are being taken. Awareness campaigns are also being conducted in villages to encourage cooperation with security forces. Officials stress that community vigilance can play a vital role in preventing possible attacks.
The infiltration of three Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists into Bihar through Nepal has triggered a state-wide alert. With Mohammad Usman, Adil Hussain and Hasnain Ali Awan identified as suspects, security forces are leaving no stone unturned to secure border areas and urban centers. The porous nature of the Nepal-Bihar border has long been a concern, and this incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for enhanced surveillance. As Bihar heads towards assembly elections, authorities are under pressure to ensure peace and prevent any terror activity. The investigation continues, but security has already been stepped up at every possible level to protect the state from potential threats.
