LPG Price 1 August 2025: Commercial Cylinder Becomes Cheaper

The month of August has begun with a sigh of relief for commercial gas users across India. On 1 August 2025, oil marketing companies revised the LPG prices, cutting down the cost of the 19-kg commercial gas cylinder by nearly ₹35. However, there has been no change in the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder prices. Consumers using LPG for household cooking will continue to pay the same as before.

Commercial LPG price sees major drop in key metro cities

In Delhi, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder now stands at ₹1631, down from ₹1665 in July. This reduction brings a straight benefit of ₹34 to restaurants, tea stalls, and other commercial consumers. Despite this revision, the price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi remains ₹853, the same as in the previous month.

In Kolkata, the commercial cylinder is now priced at ₹1734. This is a ₹35 drop compared to July when it was ₹1769. In June, the same cylinder had cost ₹1826. The trend shows a consistent decline in LPG commercial rates over the last three months.

Mumbai also witnessed a notable price drop. The commercial LPG rate in the city is now ₹1582.50, compared to ₹1616 in July. The price in June was ₹1674.50, while in May it had touched ₹1699. With this, there has been a total reduction of ₹33.50 this month in Mumbai.

In Chennai, the revised commercial gas price is ₹1789, a decline from ₹1823.50 in July. In June, the cost was even higher at ₹1881. This continuous price dip signals relief for food businesses and retail setups dependent on bulk LPG usage.

Domestic LPG cylinder price remains unchanged

While commercial LPG users have received significant relief, the story remains unchanged for residential customers. As of 1 August 2025, the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder has not been revised. The last revision was on 8 April 2025, when prices were increased by ₹50, making the new cost ₹853 in Delhi. Since then, there has been no further change.

Before that, the last major reduction in domestic LPG prices occurred on 30 August 2023, when a ₹200 cut was implemented nationwide as a consumer-friendly move.

Current domestic LPG prices in major Indian cities (as of 1 August 2025)

Even though prices have remained stable, the actual cost of the domestic LPG cylinder varies by city due to local taxes and transportation charges. Here’s how much households are currently paying:

  • Delhi – ₹853

  • Mumbai – ₹852.50

  • Kolkata – Unchanged (not specified in this update)

  • Chennai – ₹Not specified (domestic rate not revised)

  • Patna – ₹942.50

  • Lucknow – ₹890.50

  • Jaipur – ₹856.50

  • Agra – ₹865.50

  • Meerut – ₹860

  • Ghaziabad – ₹850.50

  • Indore – ₹881

  • Bhopal – ₹858.50

  • Ludhiana – ₹880

  • Varanasi – ₹916.50

  • Gurugram – ₹861.50

  • Ahmedabad – ₹860

  • Pune – ₹856

  • Hyderabad – ₹905

  • Bengaluru – ₹855.50

These rates reflect only the base price. If you receive a cylinder at home, delivery charges or additional service fees might apply depending on the distributor.

What’s behind the price cut in commercial LPG?

The reduction in commercial LPG prices can be attributed to a global drop in crude oil prices and adjustments in domestic gas distribution costs. The commercial segment is more directly influenced by international fuel price fluctuations, unlike domestic LPG which is often subsidized or regulated by government intervention.

In addition, low demand in some sectors, especially during monsoon months, often prompts oil companies to revise prices downward. For small eateries, catering units, and hotels, this ₹30–₹35 reduction brings measurable savings in operating costs.

Government yet to revise domestic LPG subsidy

As of now, there is no fresh announcement regarding subsidy or relief on domestic LPG cylinders from the government. With inflation and fuel costs affecting household budgets, consumers have been expecting some price correction. However, since April 2025, no update has been issued in this regard.

Many believe that a price revision might come closer to the festive season or ahead of state elections. Until then, households will have to continue paying the current standard rate.

How LPG price impacts households and businesses

While a drop in commercial LPG rates helps businesses, the unchanged domestic prices continue to affect low and middle-income households. With the rising cost of essential items and transportation, cooking gas remains a significant part of monthly expenses.

For businesses, especially restaurants and food delivery units, LPG is a daily operational cost. A small dip in cylinder prices directly helps in marginal cost savings, especially when bulk purchases are involved.

For domestic users, though, any potential price hike or subsidy announcement has wider political and economic implications, especially in poll-bound states like Bihar or Uttar Pradesh.

Will domestic LPG prices change next month?

Oil marketing companies generally revise prices on the 1st of every month, based on international benchmark rates and currency fluctuations. If the trend of falling crude oil continues, there may be hope for relief in the coming months.

However, domestic LPG rates are also influenced by fiscal policies, subsidies, and global economic conditions, so no prediction can be definitive at this time.

As India steps into August 2025, the LPG price revision brings partial relief. While businesses using commercial gas cylinders are benefitting from the ₹30+ cut, millions of households continue to pay the same amount for their cooking fuel.

The unchanged price of domestic cylinders might disappoint regular consumers, but hopes remain pinned on future updates from the oil ministry. Meanwhile, commercial users can breathe easier as they continue operations with slightly reduced input costs.
