Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Friday said that air services from Muzaffarpur will begin this year. He said the government is working actively to ensure flight operations start from Patahi airport within the planned timeline. Samrat Choudhary was in Muzaffarpur during Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Samriddhi Yatra. Addressing a public interaction programme, he said the project has moved beyond planning. He stated that actual work is now underway to make air travel a reality from the district.
He said the administration is committed to starting flight operations this year. According to him, this is no longer an announcement but a development process in execution. Officials have been directed to ensure timely completion of all required work.
Runway Renovation Tender Issued for Patahi Airport
The Deputy Chief Minister said a tender worth Rs 40 crore has already been issued. The tender is for renovation and strengthening of the runway at Patahi airport. He said runway development is the most important requirement for starting flight services.
He added that renovation work will begin soon after final procedures. Other essential infrastructure facilities will also be developed in parallel. These include operational and safety-related arrangements required for airport functioning.
Samrat Choudhary said the government aims to complete all airport-related work this year. He said coordination is ongoing with concerned departments and agencies. Regular monitoring will ensure there are no unnecessary delays.
Focus on Connectivity and Regional Development

The Deputy Chief Minister said planning for metro service in Muzaffarpur has started. He said a Detailed Project Report is being prepared. The responsibility for this work has been given to RITES.
He said RITES is a railway company with technical expertise. The DPR will study feasibility, routes, and future requirements. The report will guide further decisions on metro development.
He said Muzaffarpur’s urban growth demands modern transport systems. Traffic pressure is increasing with population growth. Metro service will help improve urban mobility.
Road to Be Built Along Budhi Gandak Embankment
Samrat Choudhary also announced a major road infrastructure project. He said a road will be constructed along the Budhi Gandak embankment. The road will connect Mushahari to Pusa in Samastipur.
