The monsoon activity in Bihar has intensified once again, and the Patna Meteorological Centre has issued a fresh alert regarding heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in multiple districts of the state. The weather office has urged people to remain cautious, avoid open fields, and stay away from tall trees, electricity poles, and wires during thunderstorms. Farmers have also been advised to refrain from visiting fields during this period as a safety precaution.

Rain and Lightning Alert for 24 Districts

According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, rainfall and lightning alerts have been issued for 24 districts of Bihar today. The districts of Buxar, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Bhabhua, Aurangabad, Arwal, Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Nawada, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, and Jehanabad are expected to remain relatively dry, while scattered showers may occur in other parts of the state. The weather department has predicted that between August 28 and September 1, rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely to cover almost all districts of Bihar.

Rainfall Likely to Continue Till September 1

The weather forecast suggests that from August 28 till September 1, all districts of Bihar may experience spells of rainfall and thunderstorm activity. North-western, north-central, north-eastern, south-western, south-central, and south-eastern parts of Bihar are likely to receive scattered rainfall at one or two places during this period.

On August 31 and September 1, the districts of West Champaran, East Champaran, Siwan, Saran, Gopalganj, Buxar, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Bhabhua, Aurangabad, Arwal, Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Nawada, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, and Jehanabad are expected to witness rainfall at several locations. In other districts, light to moderate rain may occur at isolated places.

Monsoon Trough Line Extending Across Several Regions

Weather scientists have explained that the monsoon trough is currently passing through Ganganagar, Sirsa, Agra, Banda, Sidhi, Sambalpur, and stretches till the low-pressure area formed over the north-west Bay of Bengal, situated off the Odisha coast. This trough further extends towards the east-central Bay of Bengal. The system is active up to 1.5 km above sea level and is influenced by two cyclonic circulations in the upper air.

Additionally, a western disturbance persists as a trough in the mid and upper tropospheric levels. Its axis is positioned at about 5.8 km above sea level, extending from longitude 70 degrees to latitude 28 degrees north. Due to this system, the minimum temperature across most parts of Bihar is expected to remain stable over the next five days.

Farmers and Residents Asked to Stay Alert

The weather office has specifically appealed to farmers to remain cautious during this period. Since lightning incidents often occur during monsoon showers in Bihar, farmers have been advised not to visit open fields and to avoid agricultural work when thunderclouds develop. Residents have also been warned not to stand under trees or near electric poles and wires. Such measures can reduce the risk of accidents caused by lightning strikes.

Impact of Rainfall on Daily Life in Bihar

The rainfall activity across Bihar is expected to bring relief from hot and humid weather conditions but may also disrupt daily life in several districts. Low-lying areas in Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, and Muzaffarpur are prone to waterlogging during heavy rain, leading to traffic jams and difficulties in commuting. In rural areas, heavy rainfall often damages kutcha houses, affects crops, and increases the chances of flooding in rivers and canals.

Seasonal Rainfall Trends and Expectations

Meteorologists have pointed out that Bihar’s rainfall pattern during the monsoon season is often uneven, with some districts recording heavy rainfall while others experience dry spells. The rainfall expected between August 28 and September 1 is likely to balance the seasonal deficit in certain regions. However, localized heavy showers may also result in flash floods, especially in northern districts near the Himalayan foothills and river catchment areas.

Government Preparedness and Safety Measures

District administrations have been put on alert to tackle any emergencies arising from heavy rainfall or thunderstorms. Disaster management teams are on standby, and the state government has instructed officials to ensure quick response to incidents of waterlogging, flooding, or damage caused by lightning. Public advisories have also been issued through radio, television, and digital platforms to make people aware of safety precautions.

Outlook for the Coming Days

The Patna Meteorological Centre has made it clear that the rainfall pattern will remain active across Bihar at least till September 1. Beyond this period, the intensity of rainfall will be reviewed depending on the position of the monsoon trough and the development of fresh low-pressure systems in the Bay of Bengal. For now, residents are urged to follow weather updates regularly and to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain or thunderstorms.

The active monsoon phase in Bihar is expected to bring widespread rainfall and thunderstorms in almost all districts over the next few days. While the showers may provide relief from humidity, they also pose risks such as lightning strikes, flooding, and damage to property. The weather department’s advisory emphasizes caution, particularly for farmers and residents in rural areas. With rainfall likely till September 1, people across Bihar must remain alert and adopt necessary safety measures to prevent accidents and losses during this monsoon activity.
