The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a fresh weather alert for Bihar. On Saturday, 23 August, the department warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the state. The alert covers Patna, Gaya, and other districts of South Bihar. Along with rainfall, strong winds and lightning strikes are expected in many regions. The monsoon has once again turned active over the state, and conditions indicate further intensification in the coming days.

Heavy Rainfall Warning for South Bihar

The weather department has placed nine districts of South Bihar under different alerts. Patna, Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas, and Jamui districts are under a yellow alert. These districts may experience heavy rainfall at isolated places. Gaya, Kaimur, Aurangabad, and Nawada districts are under an orange alert. These areas are likely to witness very heavy rainfall at several locations. The alerts are expected to remain in place throughout Saturday, with the possibility of extension depending on rainfall patterns.

Strong Winds and Lightning Predicted

Along with rainfall, strong winds are also expected in South Bihar. Wind speeds may reach 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. Such conditions increase the risk of lightning strikes across the region. The weather department has advised residents to remain cautious. People have been urged to avoid open areas during thunderstorms. Farmers working in fields have also been asked to stay alert. Rural regions often face higher risks due to open landscapes and lack of protective structures.

Reduced Monsoon Activity in North Bihar

While South Bihar faces heavy rainfall, North Bihar is expected to remain relatively calm. The monsoon activities in northern parts of the state are likely to be weaker on Saturday. Only light showers or drizzle may occur in some locations. Districts such as Supaul, Purnia, and West Champaran may see moderate to light rainfall. The department does not expect significant downpours in North Bihar for now.

Patna Weather Update

Patna, the capital city, is under a yellow alert. Some areas of the district may witness heavy rain. On Friday, several parts of Patna recorded moderate to heavy showers. The city received 20.1 millimeters of rainfall during the day. The rain provided temporary relief from humid conditions but also led to waterlogging in low-lying areas. The temperature also dropped slightly after the showers. The maximum temperature in Patna reduced by one degree in the last 24 hours. The maximum was recorded at 33 degrees Celsius while the minimum stood at 28.5 degrees Celsius.

Rainfall in Other Districts

West Champaran received the highest rainfall in the state in the last 24 hours. The district recorded 53 millimeters of rain. Supaul and Purnia districts also experienced showers, though lighter in intensity. In Gaya and surrounding areas, moderate rainfall was reported. With the new forecast, these regions may see heavy to very heavy rainfall. Farmers in these districts have been watching the skies closely. The rains are important for crops but excessive rainfall may damage standing fields.

Temperature Trends and Weather Changes

The weather department has forecast that temperatures may fluctuate in the coming days. Both maximum and minimum temperatures could change noticeably over the next three days. Strong winds will continue to affect many areas. The movement of monsoon winds from the Bay of Bengal is expected to drive further weather changes. Meteorologists suggest that conditions remain favorable for more rainfall across southern parts of the state.

Impact on Daily Life

Heavy rainfall brings relief from the summer heat but also creates challenges. In Patna and other urban areas, waterlogging often disrupts daily life. Traffic jams and slow vehicular movement are common during monsoon showers. Drainage systems in many cities are unable to handle continuous heavy rain. This leads to flooding in several residential and commercial areas. In rural regions, electricity supply is frequently affected during storms. Strong winds and lightning strikes increase the risk of damage to power lines. The administration has advised citizens to stay indoors during severe weather.

Farmers and Agricultural Concerns

Agriculture in Bihar depends heavily on monsoon rainfall. Farmers rely on timely rains for paddy and other seasonal crops. Adequate rainfall ensures good yields while deficit rains cause problems. However, excessive rainfall is also harmful. Heavy waterlogging can damage paddy fields and destroy standing crops. Farmers in Gaya, Aurangabad, and Nawada are particularly concerned about the forecast. These districts fall under the orange alert zone. Local agricultural experts suggest farmers prepare for drainage measures in fields. The government has assured support in case of crop damage due to floods or heavy rain.

Past 24 Hours Weather Review

During the last 24 hours, Bihar experienced scattered showers across several districts. Patna received over 20 millimeters of rainfall, easing humidity. Gaya also recorded moderate rainfall. The highest was in West Champaran, with 53 millimeters. Supaul and Purnia saw light showers. The rainfall helped bring down temperatures slightly across the state. The overall monsoon activity has now shifted more strongly towards the southern region.

IMD Forecast for Coming Days

The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast active monsoon conditions for the next few days. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue in southern districts till Monday. Northern districts may see less intense activity. The department has warned residents of orange alert districts to remain careful. Water levels in rivers may rise due to continuous rainfall. Flood-prone areas need to remain on high alert. With more rain predicted, local authorities are preparing emergency measures. Relief and rescue teams have been asked to stay ready.

Precautions Suggested for Citizens

Authorities have issued several precautionary measures for residents. People are advised not to take shelter under trees during thunderstorms. Lightning strikes are common during heavy rain in Bihar. Farmers have been asked to stop work during stormy conditions. Residents should avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall. Vehicles should move slowly on waterlogged roads. Citizens are also urged to follow official weather advisories. Emergency helplines remain active for assistance.

Importance of the Monsoon for Bihar

The monsoon is the lifeline of Bihar’s agriculture and water supply. More than 70 percent of farming in the state depends on rain. Adequate rainfall ensures food security and livelihood for millions of farmers. The rivers of Bihar are also replenished during monsoon. However, heavy rainfall often leads to floods, particularly in North Bihar. This dual nature of the monsoon makes weather alerts crucial for the state. Authorities use these forecasts to prepare disaster management plans.

Current Weather Outlook

As of Saturday morning, the sky in Patna and surrounding districts remained cloudy. Occasional showers are likely through the day. Temperatures may stay moderate due to rain. Gaya and Nawada are expected to face heavy downpours. Aurangabad and Kaimur may also experience strong thunderstorms. Residents of these districts should remain cautious. The situation may continue to evolve depending on the intensity of monsoon currents.

Government Preparations and Emergency Plans

The state government has taken note of the latest weather forecast. Disaster management teams have been alerted in the affected districts. Local administrations have been asked to ensure proper drainage in cities. Rural areas have been instructed to prepare relief shelters in case of flooding. Schools in flood-prone zones may remain closed if heavy rain continues. The health department has also issued guidelines for preventing waterborne diseases. Stagnant water after rainfall often leads to dengue and malaria outbreaks.

The weather in Bihar is once again under the grip of strong monsoon conditions. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Patna, Gaya, and other districts. The alerts issued by the weather department highlight the seriousness of the situation. Residents have been advised to remain alert and follow safety measures. While the rains bring relief and are vital for agriculture, they also carry risks of floods and damage. The coming days will be crucial as Bihar faces another active monsoon phase.
