A new wave of fear has gripped the people of Bihar’s capital as yet another high-profile murder shakes the city. On Sunday night, Ajit Kumar, a 50-year-old school director, was shot dead in Patna, reigniting serious concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Bihar.

This tragic incident comes even before the police could solve the recent murder of businessman Gopal Khemka, a case that had already raised public outcry and media attention. The swift recurrence of such violent crimes in the city suggests criminals are operating without fear of consequences, and the capital’s residents are paying the price.

 Who Was the Victim?

The victim, Ajit Kumar, was a respected school operator based in Lekhanagar, Patna. He was also a resident of Mustafapur, located in the Khagaul police jurisdiction of Danapur. Ajit Kumar was known for running a private school in the area and was widely recognized for his contribution to education in the local community.

How the Incident Unfolded

According to initial reports, the incident occurred late Sunday night near DAV Public School. Ajit Kumar was riding his scooter back home to Mustafapur after finishing work at his school in Lekhanagar.

As he approached the area near the school, unidentified assailants, who were reportedly waiting in ambush, opened fire on him. Multiple gunshots were fired at close range, leaving him severely injured. Eyewitnesses claim the assailants came on a two-wheeler and fled the scene immediately after the attack.

Locals rushed Ajit to the nearest hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries before any medical assistance could save him.

 What Police Say

Patna City SP Bhanu Pratap Singh confirmed the incident and assured that an investigation is underway. Speaking to reporters, he said:

“Ajit Kumar, a school director by profession and resident of Mustafapur, was shot dead near DAV Public School. We are analyzing CCTV footage and have initiated a probe to identify the suspects and understand the motive.”

While police teams have been deployed and technical surveillance is being used, no arrests have been made at the time of this report. Locals have expressed frustration over the lack of visible security in educational zones and residential areas alike.

Bihar’s Crime Wave: A Rising Concern

This latest incident is not isolated. Over the past few weeks, Bihar—especially Patna—has seen a disturbing rise in violent crimes, from murders and armed robberies to extortion and gang activity.

  • Just days ago, prominent businessman Gopal Khemka was murdered, and the investigation into his death is still ongoing.

  • Several reports of chain snatching, shootouts, and daylight thefts have emerged from various districts.

The consistent recurrence of such crimes is raising serious doubts about the state government’s ability to ensure public safety.

Impact on Public Sentiment and Security

The brazen killing of an educationist has deeply unsettled the public, especially those in the education sector. Teachers, students, and parents alike are demanding answers and swift justice.

Ajit Kumar was considered a pillar of the community, and his sudden death has left a void. His murder has once again highlighted how unsafe even professionals and civilians are, regardless of their status or contributions to society.

Reactions from Locals:

  • “If a school director can be gunned down in the city, what safety is left for common people?” said one resident of Lekhanagar.

  • “Criminals seem fearless. We need urgent action from the police and the government,” added another.

 Political Implications and Government Response

Opposition leaders have seized the moment to criticize the Nitish Kumar-led state government, questioning its commitment to law enforcement and the safety of citizens.

Social media is buzzing with hashtags like #PatnaCrime, #JusticeForAjitKumar, and #BiharLawAndOrder, with users demanding accountability and strict measures to control rising crime.

While the Bihar Police have increased patrolling in sensitive areas, critics argue that such reactive steps are not enough. What’s needed is a proactive strategy to dismantle organized crime networks operating in and around the capital.

Bigger Picture: Is Bihar Losing Control?

The alarming frequency of violent crimes suggests a pattern of lawlessness and emboldened criminals. Experts believe the causes are multi-layered:

  • Inadequate police presence in suburban and educational zones

  • Delayed investigations leading to public mistrust

  • Political interference hampering law enforcement efficiency

  • Lack of technological infrastructure for crime detection and prevention

With the 2025 Bihar elections not too far away, law and order will likely be a key election issue, and incidents like this will weigh heavily on voter sentiment.

 Remembering Ajit Kumar

Ajit Kumar wasn’t just a school administrator—he was an educator, mentor, and community leader. Known for his humility and dedication to providing affordable education, his loss is not just personal for his family but also for hundreds of students whose lives he shaped.

Local organizations are now planning to hold a peace march and candlelight vigil in Lekhanagar and Mustafapur in his memory.

The cold-blooded killing of school operator Ajit Kumar in Patna must not be seen as just another crime statistic. It is a harsh reminder that lawlessness is seeping into the everyday life of citizens, even those contributing to society through education and service.

As Bihar stares at yet another high-profile murder case, the onus is now on the police, the administration, and the political leadership to deliver swift justice—and most importantly, restore faith in the rule of law.
