SBI Clerk Recruitment 2025: Important Dates and Key Information

Following the IBPS recruitment, the State Bank of India (SBI) has released a notification for the recruitment of 6589 clerk positions. The online application process has already begun on the official SBI website (sbi.co.in). The application link for these positions is now active. Alongside this, the IBPS has also started the application process for its 10,277 clerk vacancies. Both these recruitments provide a golden opportunity for those aspiring to work in government banking sectors.

Details of the Vacancy

As per the SBI Clerk notification, candidates can apply for vacancies in only one state. It is essential that applicants have a strong understanding of the local language (reading, writing, speaking, and understanding) of the state they are applying to. The vacancies include both regular and backlog posts. Out of the total vacancies, 5180 positions are regular, and 1409 are backlog vacancies reserved for specific categories such as SC, ST, OBC, Divyang (persons with disabilities), and Ex-Servicemen (XS).

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the SBI Clerk position, candidates must have a graduation degree from a recognized university or higher education institution. Final-year students can also apply but must ensure that their degree is awarded on or before December 31, 2025.

Age Limit

Candidates applying for the SBI Clerk position must be between the ages of 20 and 28 years. The candidate’s date of birth must fall between April 2, 1997, and April 1, 2005. Age calculations will be made as of April 1, 2025. There is an age relaxation of 5 years for SC and ST categories, and 3 years for OBC category candidates.

Salary Details

The basic starting salary for SBI Clerk is ₹26,730 per month. The salary structure includes various increments based on the level of experience and postings. For example, the initial pay in metropolitan cities like Mumbai will amount to approximately ₹46,000 per month, which includes allowances, dearness allowance (DA), and other benefits. The salary might vary based on the location of deployment.

Selection Process

The selection process for the SBI Clerk involves multiple stages. The first stage is the online preliminary examination, followed by the main examination. Candidates who pass the preliminary exam will be eligible for the main examination. Additionally, candidates who did not study the local language of the state chosen for the exam at the 10th or 12th-grade level will have to take a local language proficiency test.

Preliminary Examination Pattern

The preliminary examination will be a one-hour exam consisting of 100 objective-type questions divided into three sections:

  • English Language: 30 marks

  • Numerical Ability: 35 marks

  • Reasoning Ability: 35 marks

Each section will have a time limit of 20 minutes, with the total time for the exam being 1 hour. The total number of marks for the preliminary examination will be 100.

Main Examination Pattern

The main exam for SBI Clerk will last for 2 hours and 40 minutes. It will consist of 190 questions and will be worth 200 marks. The subjects for the main exam include:

  • General/Financial Awareness

  • General English

  • Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability

  • Computer Knowledge

Candidates who clear the main exam will have to take a local language proficiency test, depending on the language chosen during the application.

Negative Marking

There will be negative marking in both the preliminary and main examinations. For each wrong answer, one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted.

Application Fee

The application fee for the SBI Clerk position varies based on the candidate’s category:

  • General, EWS, OBC: ₹750

  • SC, ST, Divyang (Persons with Disabilities): No fee

The fee payment can be made through debit/credit cards or internet banking.

Important Dates

The online application process for SBI Clerk 2025 began on August 6, 2025. Candidates can submit their applications until August 26, 2025. The last date to make corrections in the application form is also August 26, 2025. The last date for payment of the application fee is August 26, 2025. After completing the application, candidates should take a printout of the application form by September 10, 2025.

  • SBI Clerk Tier-1 Exam: September 2025

  • SBI Clerk Main Exam: November 2025
