On Sunday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar initiated the disbursement of social security pension payments from his residence on Ange Marg in Patna. This initiative benefitted over 1.12 crore beneficiaries, with a total amount of ₹1247.34 crore being transferred through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). Each beneficiary received ₹1100 as the second installment of the enhanced pension amount.

Increased Pension Amount for Beneficiaries

In a significant development last month, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced an increase in the assistance amount under the Social Security Pension Scheme. Previously, widows, elderly citizens, and people with disabilities received ₹400 as pension. Now, this amount has been raised to ₹1100 to provide greater support to the beneficiaries.

The pension distribution was part of a special event held at the Chief Minister’s residence, where he was joined by Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chowdhury and Vijay Kumar Sinha, as well as the Minister for Social Welfare, Madan Sahni.

Various Categories of Pension Beneficiaries

Under the Social Security Pension Scheme in Bihar, pensions are provided to six different categories of beneficiaries. These include:

  • Chief Minister’s Senior Citizen Pension Scheme

  • Bihar Disability Pension Scheme

  • Lakshmibai Social Security Pension Scheme

  • Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme

  • Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme

  • Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme

This initiative aims to provide financial security and support to some of the most vulnerable sections of society.

The Role of DBT in Pension Distribution

The direct transfer of funds through the DBT method ensures that the pension amount reaches the beneficiaries without any intermediaries. This process promotes transparency and efficiency, as funds are directly credited to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

The move is expected to benefit millions of people across Bihar, especially those who rely on this assistance for their daily needs. The enhanced pension amount will significantly improve the quality of life for these individuals, helping them meet their basic expenses.

The Special Event at CM’s Residence

The special program at the Chief Minister’s residence was a significant occasion. It reflected the state government’s commitment to ensuring social welfare for the underprivileged sections of society. The event was attended by key political figures, including both Deputy Chief Ministers. They all highlighted the importance of such initiatives for social welfare and the government’s focus on uplifting the marginalized communities in Bihar.

Nitish Kumar’s Focus on Social Welfare

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has consistently prioritized social welfare schemes in his governance. The increase in the pension amount under the Social Security Pension Scheme reflects his commitment to improving the living standards of vulnerable groups.

This pension distribution is a part of Bihar’s larger effort to enhance social security for senior citizens, widows, and people with disabilities. The government is constantly working on improving and expanding its social welfare schemes to cover more people and provide better assistance.

The distribution of ₹1247.34 crore under the enhanced Social Security Pension Scheme is a significant step towards financial empowerment for the underprivileged in Bihar. By increasing the pension amount to ₹1100, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ensured that beneficiaries will receive much-needed support for their daily living expenses. The transparency brought by DBT in the distribution process further ensures that the funds reach the intended recipients effectively. As the government continues to implement social welfare initiatives, Bihar’s most vulnerable citizens are set to benefit from greater financial security and support.
