KKN Gurugram Desk | On the night of 6th–7th May 2025, India conducted a swift, high-precision military operation inside Pakistan-administered territory in response to the Pahalgam massacre, in which dozens of civilians were killed. The operation, codenamed “Operation Sindoor,” was carried out with strategic restraint but unmatched efficiency, lasting only 22 minutes.

Now, for the first time, exclusive images from India’s military war room have surfaced, showing the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), along with the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, monitoring the mission in real time.

The War Room: India’s Nerve Center in Action

In a rarely seen glimpse into India’s military command structure, the war room during Operation Sindoor reveals the top-tier coordination between all three branches of the armed forces. According to official sources, there was also a fourth, unnamed individual present in the war room, whose identity has not been disclosed but is believed to be a senior intelligence or political authority.

This room served as the central hub for decision-making, data surveillance, target tracking, and real-time communication with units in operation.

The Target: Strategic Hit Across the Border

The operation targeted terrorist infrastructure deep inside Pakistan-occupied territory, believed to be connected to the orchestrators of the Pahalgam attack. Indian intelligence agencies had traced these operatives using advanced surveillance, satellite imaging, and signal intercepts.

According to defense sources, the targets included:

  • Training camps in Balakot-like mountainous zones

  • Arms depots supplying insurgents

  • Command bunkers used by terror commanders

These were neutralized using precision airstrikessurface-to-surface missiles, and limited special forces engagement.

 Timeline: 22 Minutes of Impact

The operation, conducted between 11:46 PM and 12:08 AM, was calibrated to avoid collateral damage and civilian casualties. The entire strike window lasted under 22 minutes, a testament to India’s increasing reliance on real-time intelligence, drone monitoring, and satellite precision weaponry.

Intelligence and Planning: Months in the Making

Though the Pahalgam massacre triggered the immediate response, the groundwork for Operation Sindoor had been laid over several months. Intelligence units from RAWMilitary Intelligence, and NTRO had been monitoring insurgent movements across the LoC.

Senior officials from National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) were also involved in crafting the operational blueprint, which included:

  • Identifying terrorist camps

  • Monitoring movement of key operatives

  • Isolating civilian-populated zones

  • Planning exit strategies for engaged personnel

 Role of the Armed Forces

  • Indian Air Force (IAF): Deployed combat jets armed with laser-guided bombs to strike targets with pinpoint accuracy.

  • Indian Army (Para SF): Special Forces conducted quick infiltration strikes and ensured confirmation of high-value target elimination.

  • Indian Navy (Intelligence Wing): Provided satellite coordination and communication encryption.

 Secrecy and Diplomacy

What makes Operation Sindoor unique is not just its tactical success but the level of secrecy and restraint maintained. There was no official press release or premature announcement. International briefings were conducted post-facto to clarify that the strike was targeted at non-civilian, terrorist infrastructure.

Sources confirm that NSA Ajit Doval and other national security advisors were in continuous consultation with the defense leadership throughout the mission.

 Global Reactions

Following the revelation of Operation Sindoor:

  • United States acknowledged India’s “right to defend its civilians.”

  • France and UK backed India’s stance on precision counter-terrorism strikes.

  • China urged restraint but did not criticize the operation directly.

  • Pakistan denied the scale of the strike, calling it “fabricated,” though satellite evidence contradicts this claim.

Political Statements

While the Indian government maintained strategic silence, some key political figures including the Defence Minister and Home Minister praised the armed forces for their professionalism. The Prime Minister refrained from making a direct public comment, underlining India’s preference for quiet power over loud declarations.

Expert Analysis: India’s Military Doctrine Evolving

Defense analysts argue that Operation Sindoor reflects a major doctrinal shift—from reactive to proactive and precision-based counter-terrorism. This isn’t a one-off, but part of India’s growing arsenal of tools in asymmetric warfare.

According to retired Major General S.P. Singh:

“This is not just a military strike; it’s a message—that India will now respond in real-time, with technology and precision, not just rhetoric.”

Operation Sindoor is more than a military strike—it’s a calibrated assertion of India’s strategic capabilities and resolve against cross-border terrorism. The never-before-seen images from the war room offer a rare glimpse into how national decisions are executed at the highest level, with speed, synergy, and surgical precision.
